August Brush Strokes Newsletter

Brushstrokes Editor Desray Lithgow is on vacation so here is a brief update on what is happening in the Corvallis Art Guild:

We’ll have our first meeting of the 2011-12 season on Labor Day, September 5th.  The social time will start at 7:00 with the meeting starting at 7:30.  We’ll meet at the First Presbyterian Church at the SW corner of 8th and Monroe just like last year.  Bill Shumway, the owner of Pegasus Art Gallery will be the speaker. He will discuss how he creates his own art, share his views of the local art community, and talk about running an art gallery.

Membership dues for 2011-2012:

  • ·        $15 per year gives you the opportunity to attend meetings
  • ·        Become an exhibiting member (be able to show your work around town, and be a part of Guild sales including the Fall Festival and The Clothesline Sale)
  • ·        Participate in modestly priced workshops
  • ·        Receive the Brushstrokes newsletter
  • ·        Join a critique group
  • ·        Support our local arts community

Your membership check is due in September. Members can give Treasurer Judy Dedek a check at the September 5th meeting or mail it to her home at

27040 Sulphur Springs Road, Corvallis, OR 97330.

Checks should be made out to Corvallis Art Guild for $15.

Clothesline Sale:

Our Clothesline Sale, marking our 50th anniversary, was enjoyed by
all. Four different musical groups played everything from classical to
barbershop. Gross sales were $29,000, about the same as last year.
Expenses, including the $1200 given to Corvallis schools for art,
equaled $4000. Special thanks to Mike Bergen for a job well done.

DaVinci Days:

Judy Findley reported that over 100 portraits were drawn by
several CAG artists at DaVinci Days.

Corvallis Fall Festival:
Kristin Hager says that 7-8 CAG members have signed up for sharing the Guild booth at the Fall Festival.

Hanging around Town:

We thank Cherill and Earl Boisonou for chairing Exhibits for the
past several months. Mike Bergen is now the current chair. The Board
agreed that exhibiting members can exhibit at Timber Ridge once every
twelve months, rather than every 24 months.  The Hanging Around Town schedule is attached.

Festival of the Guilds Holiday Sale:

At the September meeting, President Rick will ask about members’ interest in participating in the coming Festival of the Guilds – Holiday Sale at The Art Center in November.

Hope your summer is going well, Joyce Canan
