*Social Half-Hour at 7:00 pm ~ General meeting 7:30 pm
Corvallis-Benton County Library
“The Art of Monte Shelton”
*Changes:
When you come to the CAG meeting Social Half-Hour (7:00 pm) from now on, bring your latest work of art to display. We’ll put them around the room. Then, we’ll socialize and celebrate in their presence.
Portland artist Monte Shelton will give a presentation about her art with a question/answer session. For the month of September, Shelton’s paintings will be on display as part of the “It Happens in the Forest” show which opens September 2 in the Main Gallery of The Arts Center.
Forest Pond East, 2006 oil on canvas 48″ x 96″
Shelton’s images are a fusion of observation and imagination, the abstract and descriptive. She blends the tension between light and shadow, the paradox of fire and water, hot and cold, life and death. Expressive brush work represents energy spots, layering yellows and gold into languid blues and violets.
For more information about Monte and/or to view her art, click here. http://www.paintmonte.com

First of all, I would like to thank all of last year’s CAG officers and committee chairs for the time and effort that was put into helping the CAG meet its purpose of promoting art in our community. This includes Carolyn Madsen, Brandi Dayton, Anna Tewes, Jasmine Nahorniak, and DiAnn Acevedo for their outstanding leadership, as well as all the committee chairs with special mention for the heroic task that Norma Eaton and Doyle Leek made in leading the Clothesline Sale effort.
As you may have noticed, this year Harold Wood has volunteered to become the editor of Brush Strokes newsletter and he will be implementing the proposal that was made last year for developing both a hard copy as well as a Web-based version of the newsletter. So I also want to offer a special thank you to Barbara Story who has done such an outstanding job as editor for the past several years.
Looking forward, there are a number of changes that have been already discussed and that will be addressed by the board this coming year with the aid of focus groups. Maureen Frank has already taken the initiative of creating and sending out a survey regarding future programs and other changes. Some of the preliminary inputs include support for focus groups, more educational programs and less “businessâ€, expanded membership and the need for a strategic plan.
So there is much to do and I am looking forward to a very productive and fun year.
Mike Bergen, President

The weather for the 47th Annual Clothesline Sale of Art was perfect–partially overcast, partially sunny, not too warm. Everyone had a good time, even though the crowds did not seem as heavy as they have been at recent past sales. Perhaps the economy and price of gas took its toll, since sales were down about 25 percent from last year.
Doyle Leek and Norma Eaton are interested in comments and suggestions from all who participated and will be having a meeting soon to discuss the Sale and plans for the next one. They want to thank everyone who helped in a thousand different ways, especially those who were not hanging.
Gross Sales Clothesline Sale 2001-2008
2001 $26,500.00
2002 $31,500.00
2003 $37,800.00
2004 $32,200.00
2005 $46,000.00
2006 $47,100.00
2007 $38.200.00
2008 $29,500.00
