Brandi York, Eugene pastel and portrait artist to speak at the May 6, 2013 meeting

Brandi York, Eugene pastel and portrait artist, will speak at the Corvallis Art Guild’s May 6, 2013 meeting at 7:00 pm.  Brandi will talk about her work with pastels.  She paints lively portraits in pastel, and also creates large scale murals in pastel.  She will also talk about her experience with plein air work and street painting, which she describes as “very much about the process and not the end result.”

Brandi was born and raised in Southern California, her interest in art sparking at age 12.  Her first professional work came at 17, assisting with book illustrations for a small series of Disney books.  In 2003, she began drawing portraits and caricatures for Rubio Arts at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.  In 2004, she became an in-store artist for Trader Joe’s, working in several stores, including Irvine, CA and more recently, Eugene, OR.  She and her husband moved to Oregon in 2006, where she continues working for Trader Joe’s, but also teaches at Maude Kerns Art Center, and is the Fine Art Representative for Copic Markers in the Pacific Northwest.

CAG meetings are held in the meeting rooms at the First Presbyterian Church (8th and Monroe, near Central Park) in Corvallis.  The meetings begin with a short business meeting and a short topic, followed by the main speaker.  The formal meeting concludes by 8:30, with an opportunity to socialize after the meeting.
