I have ended up working largely with recycled or discarded material because I feel very strongly about global climate change, and how individuals can take steps to mitigate our cycle of endless and mindless overconsumption. I make art from materials such as discarded plastic straws, discarded bottlecaps, textile and packaging scraps and other “trash” to remind people that this stuff we blithely toss doesn’t really go away. If viewing my work causes one person to alter their behavior in a habitual way, it has served its purpose. I won’t know, but I can hope.
